Jan is a well known entrepreneur, who has successfully owned and operated a large number of businesses in very diverse sectors.

As well as being Chairman of Rougemont, Jan is also Chairman of Montpellier Estates, a Harrogate based Property Development and Investment Company, which specialises in major mixed-use regeneration projects. She is also Chairman of Bridlington based Bee Health which manufactures and distributes a wide range of neutraceutical products, both for the UK market and abroad.

As a person who is passionate about Yorkshire Jan has consistently promoted the county and was the founding chairman of Marketing Leeds, the organisation created to market the Leeds City Region both nationally and internationally. She was appointed a Business Ambassador for Yorkshire in 2009.

Jan also owns two of Yorkshire's best loved restaurants; The Drum and Monkey in Harrogate and Bryan's Seafood Restaurant in Leeds.

Jan was a non-executive director of the Skipton Building Society for ten years and was also a non-executive director of Guardian Media Group's Real Radio.
